About Barcelona Magic Fountains show Times
The Magic Fountains or Font Màgica Montjuïc are the centre piece of a terraced public square with many fountains and waterfalls that direct the attention from Aveninda de la Reina Maria Cristina towards the Palau Nacional (MNAC) Museo Nacional d'Art Catalan at the top.
The Barcelona magic fountain is a FREE light and sound show with a choreographed water display that is popular with tourists. Skip down to the visiting Section for the times of the light and water shows if you're not interested in the history.
Montjuïc Magic Fountain History
The Magic fountains are part of a series of structures built for the 1929 world Exhibition in Barcelona that formed a grand gateway to the Palau Nacional Exhibition hall.
- Magic Fountain: A large Fountain in Plaça Carles Buïgas i Sans and Plaça Josep Puig i Cadafalch that was remodelled for the 1992 Olympics.
- Venetian Towers: are a pair of towers built to look like the towers in saint Marks Square(Venice). They mark the entrance to Avenida de la Reina Maria Cristina. The towers are 47m high with a 7.2 metres square cross-section and have been refurbished multiple times. They stand today as monuments in Plaza España. They are not open to the public, However the council does hold open days once a year for visits inside.
- La Fira 1, Montjuïc: Are the buildings along Avenida de la Reina Maria Cristina which are large exhibition halls that were built for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. They consists of seven exhibition halls. La Fira 1 has a total of 153,000 square metres of floor space.

Visiting Barcelona Magic Fountains show Times
The magic fountains are free to visit any time of the day or night. The fountains and water falls are not always on and do not have a fixed time table but the waterfalls of MNAC on the upper terrace are usually on in the evening.
You do not need a ticket or book in advance to see the fountains. it is a public space with no gates or barriers. Except on New years eve where the space is restricted access for the fireworks display.
Some Sunday's from 11:00h to 15:00h you may find the waterfalls and magic fountains on but of course without the lights and music.
The Magic fountain light and music show times
- 7th January to 28th February: No light and music shows - annual maintenance
- 1st March to 31st March, Thursday to Saturday: 20:00h to 21:00h
- 1st April to 31st May, Thursday to Saturday: 21:00h to 22:00h
- 1st June to 30th September, Wednesday to Sunday: 21:30h to 22:30h
- 1st October to 31st October, Thursday to Saturday: 21:00h to 22:00h
- 1st November to 6th January, Thursday to Saturday: 20:00h to 21:00h

UPDATE: Due to the ongoing 2024 drought in Catalonia, the magic fountains have been cancelled and drained of water.
