About Tarragona Central Market

The Central Market in Tarragona is a 1915 built modernist structure that sells fresh and seasonal products. The market can be found in the lower part of Tarragona city between Rambla Nova and the Colonial Forum within a residential neighbourhood.

The rectangular structure is built on the old Plaça del Progrés by architect Josep Maria Pujol i de Barberà using cast iron columns to get rid of internal walls and create a lighter and more spacious interior. The building has three naves whose façades face onto Plaça Corsini and Carrer Cristòfor Colom. The Market's design is reminiscent of the Born Market in Barcelona.
